Studio update for 2025!

It’s been a while since the last update, so here’s a quick roundup of what’s been going on at Plastic Tree Studios and in my music work life.

To kick things off, I recently wrapped up a semester lecturing at the University of Northampton, teaching the second-year module on Critical Listening and Mastering. The students responded really positively, which is always a great feeling. I’m already looking forward to returning to deliver the module again in 2026.

Alongside the academic work, the studio has been as busy as ever — with a steady flow of recording, mixing, mastering, and one-to-one tutorials. One of the major highlights was working on Maddox Jones’ second album, which came together at pace in just a few months and saw a fantastic response on release. We followed it up with a 25-date tour supporting Will Young at the end of 2024, and another tour in early 2025 with Lucy Spraggan — both incredible experiences.

I was again awarded Producer of the Year at the Northamptonshire Music Awards for 2024 having been awarded this in 2023 which was an honour given the talented bunch of musicians in the county!

I’ve had the pleasure of working with a huge range of talented clients recently, and it’s been a privilege to be part of the creative process behind so much great music. One standout moment was mastering Billy Lockett’s version of Pure Imagination, which became the main theme used on Sky Sports for their coverage of the US Masters golf tournament.

More to come soon — and as always, if you’re looking to record, mix, master, learn more about music production or just talk through your next music project, get in touch.
